Seal Rescues

Seal Rescues are OCN's main priority.

Ocean debris has become a major issue for our playful seals. Many animals get stuck in plastic wrapping, clothing, discarded fishing line, old rusty paint bucket rings or anything else that might resemble a toy.  Read more...

Awareness Campaigns & Local Outreach 

Public Awareness and education is a key focus for Ocean Conservation Namibia, especially for children. If we teach our children sustainable environmental practice, many future issues regarding pollution, waste and environmental destruction can be prevented. Read more.

Social Media Information Campaigns

So far, we have discussed 2 different subjects in depth on all our social media platforms:

1. Getting to know the Cape Fur Seal, and why are they key players in our marine eco-system? More...

2. The global plastic crisis - is recycling the solution? More...

Our next campaign will address the dangers of mariculture, also known as marine farming or aquaculture. Watch this space! 

Beach Clean ups

Beach cleanups are a lot more that the removal of potential entanglements for seals and other animals. During clean-ups, participants become not only more aware of the environmental problems affecting their beaches and coastal areas, they also feel empowered to tackle the underlying issues. Animal Rehabilitation

We regularly get called out for injured wild animals such as turtles, penguins, pelicans, seals, whales, dolphins, sharks and jackals. We do not have a rehab facility, but we provide short term solutions wherever possible. Read more...
 

Data Collection

We record every entanglement. to help scientists and researchers understand the scale and impact of this issue on different species. Our data allows them to identify where entanglement hotspots are, which entanglements are the most common ones, and the severity of the problem. Read more
