Community and Industry Engagement

Raising awareness for ocean conservation is just as important as rescuing seals. In Namibia, there is still a surprising void when it comes to public discussion of ocean conservation, despite the fact that a large percentage of our country’s income depends on the sea. Our very survival is tied to healthy oceans, yet too often these conversations are missing from the national agenda. That is why we take every opportunity to engage with communities, businesses, and decision-makers.

Whether it is presenting the dangers of salmon farming, highlighting the plight of the endangered African penguin, or celebrating World Oceans Day, we make it a priority to bring these issues into the spotlight. We also engage directly with ministries and industry stakeholders to encourage policies and practices that protect marine ecosystems. By stepping into schools, universities, community halls, conferences, and business talks, we aim to connect with audiences who may not otherwise hear about the urgent need for action.

Our presentations are designed to spark curiosity, raise awareness, and inspire responsibility. While OCN has a massive international reach through social media, we also recognize the importance of focusing on local outreach, ensuring that the people who live closest to Namibia’s coastline are part of the conversation. Every exchange helps close the gap in public understanding and builds momentum toward a culture of ocean stewardship.

Alongside these efforts, we continue to share knowledge and updates through our social media campaigns and our growing library of newspaper articles and publications. Together, these channels ensure that our message reaches as many people as possible, building a stronger voice for ocean conservation in Namibia and beyond.
